UX portfolio

Hi, I'm Len. I have over 30 years experience as a senior user experience specialist with a strong focus on accessible web and product UX and design.

I am currently a senior information architect and user experience specialist at the University of Victoria. I have spent the last 4 years leading a the redesign of their website and overall web strategy. This included an intensive UX research phase using quantitative and quantitative methodologies to develop a new mobile-first web architecture and governance framework.

I have a strong mix of B2B and B2C product experience with specialties in finance, transportation, tourism and higher education. I have international work experience and thrive in a fast paced remote-work environment. Yes, I have experience in Agile and versed in many project tracking and productivity tools.

Projects

Over the span of my career I have worked on so many amazing projects that have broadened the depth of my skills. My focus always returns to understanding users and finding solutions that exceed expectations and add an element of delight. Here are a few projects to illustrate my experience:

"t’s not often that you encounter a visionary with the practical chops and talent to make it all happen, but that’s what you get with Len. In three years as the University of Victoria’s user experience specialist, Len was a leader on a project that burned the university’s existing website to the ground and reimagined it so completely that it serves both the current and future needs of the university’s incredible and essential range of stakeholders and external audiences. The results speak for themselves- by globally accepted standards one of the best university websites in the world, and one that is embraced enthusiastically and nearly unanimously by a demanding set of users.

Len’s rigorous standards, commitment to user needs and evidence-based decision-making, and his dedication to a mobile-first approach drove the project and changed the way the university community understands and uses its website. It was a massive, complex endeavour, fraught with peril; and as the project sponsor, all I had to do, thanks to Len and team, was to ensure they had the support they needed!"

"Creative is a word that was designed for Len, his ability to take ideas, concepts and turn them in to concrete creative solutions was a key driver in making the RCN Learning Zone a success.

His creativity is always linked to the ultimate aim of the product or service that is being delivered. He was able to understand the concepts without necessarily being an expert in the field.

At the same time Len was a real pleasure to work with, dynamic, an excellent communicator and very patient with sometimes frustrating Public Sector processes!"
